Thanksgiving in Haarlem!

Yep, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving here...albeit differently than we ever have in the past!

This morning I made an apple streusel pie to bring to "pie night" which we will be celebrating tonight at the home of one of the women from the American Women's Club of Amsterdam. She and her family live in Heemstede, which is a few miles south of us. She has received RSVP's for 65 people so far, so there will be plenty of pie to go around!  It starts at 1900hrs tonight. I will post pictures at a later time.

Tomorrow morning I will be going over to our neighbor's house to bake pies!  She is making sweet potato pie and pecan pie and I will be making another apple pie!  Then Saturday our neighbors, Bruce and Linda, will be hosting nine of us for a Thanksgiving dinner!  They have ordered a turkey from a local butcher which they will pick up in the Grote Markt Saturday morning. The butcher raises the turkeys himself and will provide a picture of "our" turkey if we want one...I just hope he doesn't have a name for it too!  I will post pictures from our dinner also at a later time!

So, today I will be spending the day cleaning and doing a little shopping. Christmas is coming and I've been trying to put a few things away to ship to the U.S. for our "kids" and grandkids.

I've been feeling especially homesick the past few days. Last weekend while I was shopping I just started crying out of the blue because I miss my children. The holidays are a tough time to be away from them.
