Winkelen ....we go!

Today was a good day for "winkelen" (shopping)! We started out at around 11:00 by going to the shopping center a few blocks away from here. It's Sunday-little did we know that all the stores, except for the grocery store and the liquor store, were closed! So, we got enough groceries to get us through the next few days and headed back to the apartment and put everything away.

About an hour later we headed out again. We decided to find the Ikea store and the Media Markt  in a town called Cruquius, which is close to Haarlem, to get some things for the house. Ikea was also closed-now we know!  Media Markt was open, as were many other stores in that same shopping area. The only things we bought were a pillow and an alarm clock. We now know where to go to get all the appliances we will need though.

One of the stores was a sporting good store. In there we saw a display of shinty sticks:

And table soccer game with the famous Ajax team!

We walked around Haarlem. In December they have street vendors throughout the town on the weekends. They had tables and tables full of fun things!

We were starving by that time so stopped for dinner at:

We had prosciutto pizza, caesar salad and mozzarella bread. It was delicious!

We walked around town a bit more trying to get a feel for where things are, then headed back to the apartment. Because it gets dark so early here (around 1630hrs)  it feels late very early. As we were driving back I saw a sign for an Auschwitz Memorial. Tomorrow I will try to go see that....
