Gutter repair

Today, we had some "plumbers" come to the house to replace the gutter in between our house and the neighbors' house.  The bill will go to the landlord. There was apparently a hole in the old gutter, which could cause water to go in between the walls of the houses which could cause significant water damage over time. Our neighbors had noticed the hole a few months back when they were up on the roof replacing a tile.

After they left (around 1600hrs), I took Sammy for a walk. There is a building that is being torn down on "the Dreef". I have no idea what will be going in there, but it looks like they're putting a large foundation in.

I noticed this sign:

Looked it up:

And found that it's telling people there are security cameras on the premises. The cameras have special software that can detect people....pretty interesting!

  1. Who discovered the hole, Steph? Regardless of that, I’m glad the problem was solved, even before it caused real trouble. A hole in the gutter is no less worrying than an improperly pitched gutter. And it could’ve been worse, knowing two households could have gotten affected. -->Antonia Johnston

  2. It's a good thing that your neighbors found that pesky hole. Snow, tree limbs, debris, and even squirrels can damage a gutter. It can cause a lot of problems, such as water leaks and pest invasion. Small gutter holes can be repaired by applying gutter sealant. However, if you find out that your gutter is hopelessly damaged, then it’s best to replace it with a new one.

  3. I agree with Soo here. If the hole in the gutter is just small, you can simply remedy it with a gutter sealant. But the damage should still be addressed to prevent it from getting worse, though the sealant can prolong the life of the old gutter. Well, I think it’s a wise decision to totally replace the gutter. After all, it will be replaced in the future if that hole became really big.
