We drove straight through to Bastogne, stopping only for gas and a quick bite to eat. We had read about the battles in Bastogne and found there was an American cemetery there.
Mardasson Memorial, Bastogne, Belgium. This is the new Visitors Center which wasn't open when we arrived.
I barely made it to the top. There is a spiral staircase which made me very dizzy. I had to stop for a few minutes with my eyes closed before I could take a look around. What a beautiful site......sad realization though that so many died there.
Still snow on the ground.....
After leaving the Mardasson Memorial we drove on to our final destination for the day....Vianden, Luxembourg. What a beautiful little town. As we drove in we saw the castle from above the town and stopped to take pictures!
There was a war memorial at that spot also.......
We continued on the road into town to our hotel: The Hotel Oranienburg. From our room we had a view of the castle!
We hadn't seen a rotary dial phone in years...had to take a picture!
We checked in the went to see the castle!
The locks on a trunk!
A little house down the street from the castle:
Later on we had dinner at DuPont where we had a beautiful view of the river:
Since there is no smoking inside anywhere Andrew and I sat outside on the front patio of the hotel after dinner for a drink and his smoke!
